Narrative Theory by Todorov

­Todorov found that all plot lines all follow the same 5 steps.

1. Equilibrium- the beginning of the story will appear to be normal and everyone acting as they should be.
2. Disruption of the equilibrium- A problem will happen which will disrupt the peace.
3. Recognition of the disruption- All the characters realise that there is a problem.
4. Attempt to repair the damage- All the main characters try to fix the problem and restore the order.
5. New equilibrium- The problem is resolved and everything goes back to normal.

My film plot follows this theory:

1. Equilibrium- The opening scene shows Harriet sitting at home and everything is fine.
2. Disruption of the equilibrium- Harriet gets taken by Philip.
3. Recognition of the disruption- James, Laura. Matt, Alice all realise that Harriet is missing.
4. Attempt to repair the damage- Matt tries to find Harriet.
5. New equilibrium- They find Harriet and Philip goes to jail, happiness is repaired.
