Analysis of target audience of other movies

In order for me to create my products I need to clearly identify my target audience. In order for me to do so I will examine other movies and how they have reached their own target audience though the use of trailers. Firstly I would like to draw your attention to this trailer for the film 'It Follows'.

This film has the age rating 15, We as the audience can see that as this is reflected throughout this trailer as the trailers Brierly signals that sex and violence are apart of this film which follows the rules for the age rating 15. If sex and violence was shown vigorously then it would not be able to be a 15 thus losing there target audience as the film relies on those aged between 15 and 18, if it was to be an 18 then the film company would lose out on a vital part of there audience.

The main characters is this film are teenagers this is another way in which the film addressed there target audience, as there target audience are teenagers using teenagers in the film allows the audience to relate and empathise with the characters more so as they are of similar age. The audience are more likely going to like the characters in the film if they are of similar age, doing this is a safe way for the company to guarantee that the audience watching the film is the audience that the company initially targeted and aimed for. Using a blond female as the main character allows the female audience to relate to the character. However following typically conventions of a horror, when their is a blond female character it is usually because they are the passive bystander which is abused some way by the evil character in the film and she is usually the first person to die. In this film they have followed this convention as in the trailer they tell us that this character could potentially die if your do not do something about it. She is also the only character which was show to be beaten and potentially could die which follows again the typical convention. Following this convention is a safe way for the company to make sure their audience to know that the film is a horror film. When I come to create my film i will follow the normal conventions as it is the best way of attracting my audience.

The way this film trailer indicates to us what locations they have used, I found it to be subtle and affective, throughout this trailer we are shown several locations this includes a beach, railway lines, hospital, house. Some of these locations are typical areas which normal teenagers go such as a beach or house, however using the location of the railway lines and hospital adds atmosphere to the film and re-informs the audience that this is a horror film.
